Room Searchers

Welcome future residents! Johanna accommodates 655 students. In order to be eligible for one of the rooms or studios in the building, you must be registered with the SSH. You can register via www.sshxl.nl

After registration you can choose which room or studio you want to live in. You can choose a room in Johanna, but also a room in another building. SSH has several buildings in Utrecht. Please note that there may be more than one candidate for the same room or studio. The longest registration period will then be considered. The longer you are enrolled, the earlier your turn will be.

Our Apartments

Rooms
Johanna has 381 student rooms in units, in which you will live with a total of 4, 5 or 6 students. You share the living room / kitchen, shower and toilet with each other. The room you rent is of course all yours. You will have to furnish this room yourself or you can make appointments with the previous tenant.

When you apply for a room the current housemates will invite the first 10-15 persons with the longest registration time to come by. This is a short informal meeting to get to know each other and see the room. After this the housemates will decide who they want as their new housemate. Needless to say, you can still say no to the room if you have been selected.

Studios
In addition to the student rooms, Johanna also has 274 studios. Living in a studio means that you have all the amenities for yourself. So you don’t have to share the living room, shower and toilet.

Studios are divided into small and large studios of between 23m2 and 30m2. For these studios it is possible to apply for rent allowance if you are 23 years of age or older. You will have to pay the municipal levies yourself.

In order to be eligible for a studio, you will have to be registered with the SSH as the longest.

Short stay
148 rooms are reserved for international students. Unlike our regular rooms these are fully furnished and the kitchen is equiped with kitchen applicances.

Students with a disability
The unique thing about Johanna is that the building is also accessible to students with a disability. There are three houses with adjustments for disabled people. The bathroom is adapted and the sink is adjustable in height. If you would like to make use of the possibility to live in a custom home, please send an e-mail to johanna@sshxl.nl

Johanna has reserved rooms not only for the disabled, but also for deaf and hearing impaired students. 12 rooms are reserved for deaf/poor- and sign language students. These houses also have adjustments such as a light indicating that a call is being made and the ability to see who is ringing via a camera. Are you a deaf or hard-of-hearing student or are you a sign language student? Sign up at gebarenunitSSH@hu.nl
